If filing a mining claim for the first time, assume that it will be a learning experience and the paperwork will be kicked back at least once – the bureaucrats apparently have no motivation whatsoever to make it a clear and transparent process. Do assume that they will use a lot of extra words for over-formalisms and heavy-handed condescension, and that they’ll spend plenty of your fee money on ceritified mail, etc.
One particular pitfall is that they won’t accept GPS coordinates! Apparently “450 feet north of the old tree stump” is superior to a positional technology used to guide cruise missiles… So, “metes and bounds” claim descriptions are still required.
